On February 3-4 Executive Chef Serge Belair competes in Ottawa for the opportunity to be crowned the top chef in Canada at the Canadian Culinary Championship.

On October 2022, the Edmonton Convention Centre proudly hosted Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, a regional qualifier, to qualify finalists who move on to compete in the Canadian Culinary Championship in Ottawa. Canada’s Great Kitchen Party is the most respected culinary competition in Canada and was recently awarded “The Best Gastromical Event in North America”. The event is the largest exposition of quality wine in Canada, and it is a celebration of Canadian music and sport showcasing Canadian athletes in amateur, para and professional sport.
The regional events were staged in cities across Canada, and celebrated the pillars of Canadian culture–sport, music and food. In each city, up to 10 chefs competed with a dish of their choice paired with a Canadian wine, beer or spirit. To have received an invitation to compete in this exclusive event, is a notch in any chef’s belt and placing at the podium is an even larger challenge with a regional gold medal win becoming a major achievement.
Last October at the regional qualifier hosted by our venue, Executive Chef Serge Belair went head-to-head against seven accomplished local chefs and earned his place as the regional Gold Medal winner. On February 3-4, Executive Chef Serge Belair will compete in Ottawa for the opportunity to be crowned the top chef in Canada at the Canadian Culinary Championship.
Chef Serge is the only chef in the competition to represent an event venue, and the Edmonton Convention Centre is the only convention venue in Canada that is included in this highly esteemed culinary competition.
Meet Executive Chef Serge Belair
As one of Canada’s top culinary experts, Executive Chef Serge Belair displays his passion on every plate. Originally from Gatineau, Quebec, he studied at Commission scolaire la Vallée de la Lievre and refined his skills at Hotel Clarion Gatineau’s Restaurant La Pergola. Knowledgeable in French fine dining, Chef Serge’s talents blend traditional plates with savoury elements of surprise. Chef Serge leads one of Canada’s top culinary teams, and together they build on the Edmonton Convention Centre’s exemplary reputation.
