Did you know?
Meetings and Conventions
Meetings and conventions can generate a large carbon footprint and have an environmental impact on the communities in which they are held. Our in-house sustainability team works closely with our clients to help them understand the impact of their events and provide resources to mitigate their footprint.
Below, you’ll find resources for making your meeting more environmentally sustainable when you’re at the Edmonton Convention Centre.
In 2018, we successfully diverted 129,652 kg of waste from landfill and donated 2,874 kgs of food to the Edmonton Food Bank through the Second Helping Program.
Our waste management program includes both front and back-of-house areas. We offer waste audits at no additional cost to clients interested in minimizing the waste generated at their events. Ask our sales team or your client service representative for more information.
Connecting you to North America’s largest urban parkland, the Edmonton Convention Centre contributes to our city’s urban biodiversity. Our property features an indigenous medicine wheel garden on the rooftop of our Riverview Room, an herb and vegetable garden that is kept by kitchen staff and a monarch butterfly preservation garden.
The gardens are pollinated by our very own urban beehive that produced more than 45 pounds of honey in 2018 for our kitchen. Our bees have not only contributed to our surroundings, but also helped grow Edmonton’s image and reputation as a leader in sustainability. In 2016 the Edmonton Convention Centre’s beekeeping program was featured on the Japanese television show Bee World. View the episode here.
And that’s not all. Inside the venue, you’ll also see hundreds of plants that absorb 4,120 lbs of CO2 each year and a sustainable living wall located on the pedway level.
