Job Details

The Edmonton Convention Centre is looking for an Assistant Chief Steward to join the team! Reporting to the Chief Steward, this position will assist in the hiring, training, performance management and supervising of all stewarding personnel and department’s other resources The Assistant Chief Steward will assist and lead all stewarding team in the cleaning and sanitizing of all flatware, glassware, silverware, maintenance of cleaning tools and supplies and stores them in designated area(s). The Assistant Chief Steward promotes Edmonton Convention Centre to consistently meet and exceed Alberta Health Services ‘Serving Safer Food’ in delivering great customer experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in scheduling and working assignments for stewarding department in the absence of Chief Stewards based on business volume
  • Managing the standard operating practices for stewarding area that are aligned with the ECC Operational Service Excellence objectives.
  • Engaging and implementing practices which support employee engagement through regular communication and positive reinforcement.
  • Monitoring supply of clean dishware, glassware, and pans; take corrective action to maintain supply level and inventory.
  • Participating in departmental planning meetings organizing and preparing for upcoming events and banquets
  • Monthly and quarterly inventory. Walk through of all F&B areas including banquets, cafeteria, main & pastry kitchen.
  • Ensuring ware washing machines are cleaned, sanitized and operational
  • Supervising and checking the temperature log of the ware washing machine
  • Supervising that all chaffing dishes and equipment’s are meticulously cleaned and polished
  • Supervise the cleaning of all display items, décor, and service ware. Follows up to ensure all items have been safely stored and secured
  • Ensuring chemical room and storage areas are kept tidy and secure
  • Working with chef & Chief Steward to ensure all H&S needs are met.

The successful candidate will have:

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years as Assistant Chief Steward, Banquet Supervisor, or 5 years of commercial kitchen/stewarding supervisory role
  • Extensive knowledge of working in a commercial kitchen, experience in large scale venue or healthcare kitchens is an asset. Strong Banquet leadership experience welcome to apply
  • Must have experience working in unionized environments
  • Ability to be proactively organized with the ability to assess complex food service requirements and appropriate resources and personnel to achieve efficient experiences that exceed guest expectations
  • Flexible with work schedule
  • Knowledge of health and safety, and food safety
  • Basic knowledge of First Aid and WHMIS
  • Working knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing chemical
  • Working knowledge of ware washing equipment and tools
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office program, Working knowledge of payroll system
  • Understands MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet)
